Mihoko Nojiri Chair

The working group of women in physics was established in AAPPS in 2006 after the successful APCTP International Conference on Asian Women in Physics in 2005. Since then, the working group has hosted Women in Physics sessions in the past APPC. The working group members have also been making an effort to improve the activities of female physicists by organizing International Conferences of Women in Physics, Gender Summit, and regional workshops. Following the past successful activities led by the previous chair Youngah Park, I would like to enhance the activity of WGWIP through the discussion among working group members and AAPPS members.

Women in physics are underrepresented worldwide, and especially it is a serious problem in Asia. We need more equality and equity in education and policy to enhance the diversity in the physics community. More action is required in the physics societies in Asia. Due to the impact of Covid-19, it has been challenging to hold in-person meetings. On the other hand, we found a new possibility to have more online activities. I welcome your cooperation.
