Abstract
This paper reports some recent progress in the elastic theory
of membranes. The shape equation of lipid vesicles, the shape
equation and boundary conditions of open lipid bilayers are
presented. An elastic model of cell membranes including membrane
skeleton is proposed. It is shown that the membrane skeleton
greatly enhances the mechanical stability of cell membranes. |
